Dream Service In much the same way that Seattle conjures up images of clouds and rain, and San Diego or Miami conjures up visions of sunny skies, it's increasingly true that the mere menion of “Buffalo” anywhere in the world seems to conjure up visions of snow, and lots of it. But those Buffalo, New York natives who lived in other parts of the United States, know two things about Buffalo weather. First, Buffalo's winters are not nearly as cold or as snowy as other parts of the United States, and secondly, Buffalo's summers and autumns are amongst the most pleasant. Yes spring comes late, and is almost non-existent, but when it comes to summer and summer evenings, Buffalo's glorious summers are its best kept secret. Many Buffaloians could vacation in the south of France, but find the weather and luxuary of a well maintained summer home on Lake Erie or Lake Ontario in nearby Canada to be ideal.

Click to see enlarged photo!Of course, global warming (otherwise known as "weather destabalization") might certainly change all that. A case in point, our expected "Indian Summer" and comfortable late autumn was displaced by the earliest winter snow storm in Buffalo’s history came roaring out of the western plains a few Octobers ago,, weighing down tree braches that had not yet been given the opportunity to lose their leaves. The result has been aptly described by locals (we don’t know for sure who first coined the phrase) as “Arborgeddon.” It’s an apt term, because one of the wonderful hallmarks of Buffalo, and its suburbs (such as Amherst) are the thousands and thousands of trees in both parks and neighborhoods. Not unlike many local web sites, we’ve been documenting the disaster, and have a gallery of photos of this storm that we have posted in our cam archive.

Click to visit the Official Fallsview Cam in Niagara Falls!Buffalo is about half an hour's drive to Niagara Falls, and that's a big plus, not only tourists but for everyone in Western New York. A trip to Niagara Falls can be exilarating (without the casinos). We recommend that you visit the Official Niagara Falls FallsView Cam before making the your trip the Falls. At the Fallscam, you can see real time views of Niagara Falls, and, therefore, view actual weather conditions at the Falls. We'll also be adding more information about other tourist destinations such as Niagara-on-the-Lake, and Stratford Festival Theatre, plus our many cultural attractions within the Greater Buffalo area. See our NAVIGATION menu for additional topics, and our photo archives. We'll also be adding some photos taken in the real snow belt the media misrepresents as Buffalo, the snow capital of Western New York, Colden, New York. The big snows fall in Colden and in other areas south of Buffalo.

The weather pages at the BuffaloCam, in addition to the Cam itself, get most of its traffic during the winter months, as former Buffalonians as well as weathermen turn to the to The BuffaloCam for images of how Buffalonians are weathering the storm. At times, we’ve had over a million hits per day, so if you turn to the Cam on a stormy day or “week,” be patient. There just might be a lot of people in the USA and Canada, checking to see exactly what’s happening in Buffalo.
