| July 3rd, 2010. An international audience gathers at Cafe Aroma on Elmwood and Bidwell Parkway to watch the World Cup. Seems like there is a crowd there for every single game. As you can see, nice weather for it, though the temperatures are steadly on the rise and should reach 90 before this year's final game. |

In
much the same way that Seattle conjures up images of clouds and rain,
and San Diego or Miami conjures up visions of sunny skies, it's increasingly
true that the mere menion of “Buffalo” anywhere in the
world seems to conjure up visions of snow, and lots of it. But those
Buffalo, New York natives who lived in other parts of the United
States, know two things about Buffalo weather. First, Buffalo's winters
are not nearly as cold or as snowy as other parts of the United States,
and secondly, Buffalo's summers and autumns are amongst the most
pleasant. Yes spring comes late, and is almost non-existent, but
when it comes to summer and summer evenings, Buffalo's glorious summers
are its best kept secret. Many Buffaloians could vacation in the
south of France, but find the weather and luxuary of a well maintained
summer home on Lake Erie or Lake Ontario in nearby Canada to be ideal.
Of
course, global warming (otherwise known as "weather destabalization")
might certainly change all that. A case in point, what would have been
just another beautiful Indian summer and late autumn took a dive, when
the earliest winter snow storm in Buffalo’s history came roaring
out of the western plains this October, , weighing down tree braches
that had not yet been given the opportunity to lose their leaves. The
end result was what has been aptly described by locals (we don’t
know for sure who first coined the phrase) as “Arborgeddon.” It’s
an apt term, because one of the wonderful hallmarks of Buffalo, and
its suburbs (such as Amherst) are the thousands and thousands of trees
that line its parks and neighborhoods. Not unlike many of the local
web sites, we’ve been snapping photos of the trees, and have
a gallery of photos of this storm that we
have posted in our cam archive.
